Tyler Holman’ 19 and Justin McNulty ‘20: On Friday, September 7th, Romeo hosted it’s 10th annual Watchdog game against the Titans of Sterling Heights Stevenson High School.
Starting off as a back and forth battle, both teams traded scores throughout most of the first half. Eventually, Romeo started to pull away and took a 28-14 lead into the locker room, at the half.
Romeo’s offense continued to cause confusion for the Titans defense during in the second half, allowing them to hit the 50 point mark for the first time this season.
After 4 quarters of hard fought, physical MAC Red football the Bulldogs finished off Steveson with a final score of 52-24.
The win extends Romeo’s win streak to two games and puts them in a good position to contend in the MAC Red conference this season.
The breakout performer of the game, Eric Meldrum, scored four touchdowns and propelled the majority of the rushing attack for the Bulldogs.
The other scorers included Tyler Czapski ‘19, Brock Horne ‘19, and Chandler Reno ‘19. The defense played well throughout the night shutting down Steveson for the majority of the game.
Justin McNulty ‘20 added an interception, giving the Bulldogs the edge in the turnover battle.
Romeo played with an extra edge Friday night, doing so in honor of those who continue to fight the great battle with cancer.
“I really enjoyed the game and the atmosphere and the community together for a good cause. I hope we can keep the energy going into Ike week,” Eric Meldrum ‘19 said.
Romeo hopes to keep their win streak going this Friday when they take on longtime rival Eisenhower, in a huge MAC Red game at Barnabo Field beginning at 7:00.
