Chase Arendts ‘17: Defeating Dakota last Thursday night, varsity volleyball swept the Cougars in the district semi-finals to advance on to the district finals against the Anchor Bay Tars. On Friday night, the Bulldogs continued their success, destroying the Tars in three sets.
In the semi-finals game against Dakota, Romeo won the first set 30-28. Taking the second set, the Bulldogs won 25-19, and the girls took the final set 25-20.
“As a team I thought we played great,” hitter Payton Klein ‘17 said. “I knew that we would beat them when we won that first close set.”
Leading the Bulldogs in kills, outside hitter Gia Milana ‘16 supplied 27 to the team. Also contributing, Erica Labaere ‘16 hit seven, and Jodie Kelly ‘17 hit five.
After defeating Dakota, the team went on to play Anchor Bay in the finals on Friday.
The Dawgs swept the Tars in three sets defeating them 25-19, 25-16, and 25-23 in the final set of the game.
Once again, Gia Milana ‘16 lead her team to victory with an impressive 21 kills. Erica Labaere ‘16 equaled her total from last game with seven kills. Jodie Kelly ‘17 increased her totals from last game killing 13 volleyballs, contributing to the win that would advance the Bulldogs onto the district finals.
“Lake Orion has a solid defense against our hitter,” Breanna Olley ‘16 said. “We will need to be able to keep it away from their labaro.”
The girls host the regional semifinals at Romeo High School this Tuesday night, taking on the Lake Orion Dragons in their pursuit to repeat state championships.
