Chase Arendts ‘17: Taking down Eisenhower High School, varsity volleyball defeats the Eagles in five sets to win the regional finals. Winning the first two sets, Romeo started out strong, but then gave up two sets tying the match at two sets a piece. Turning around their game plan, the Bulldogs dominated in the last set, beating the Eagles 15-8, and advanced to the state quarterfinals.
Dominating the Eagles, Gia Milana ‘16 led the team with 41 kills. Milana also contributed to the win with five blocks, 21 digs, and two aces. Doing their parts, Payton Klein ‘17 killed four and dug eight, and Erica LaBaere ‘16 killed three volleyballs, while also blocking nine of Eisenhower’s kills attempts. Amber Flinn ‘18 tacked on four digs and Madison Frick ‘18 supplied nine. Playing great Jodie Kelly ‘17 finished with 18 kills and 17 digs. Finally, Breanna Olley ‘16 led the team in assists with 60, also contributing four kills, six blocks, and ten digs.
Beating the Eagles in all their meetings this season, the Bulldog’s spirits were not diminished after giving up two sets. Going into the final set, the girls knew this game was theirs.
“We knew what we had to do, but it wasn’t a matter of knowing it was a matter of doing.” Kelly ‘17 said. “We stayed focused and played for each other.”
The Bulldogs play Tuesday, November 17th, at Midland Dow against Traverse City West in the quarterfinals.
