Claire Spitz ‘20: Known for the charitable community that we are, Romeo brings back Toys for Tots once again. Amped up for this new school year, Toys for Tots 2019 holds new prizes for students, an organized display of all the toys bought through money raised, and t-shirts bearing the newest member of our Romeo family: the new bulldog mascot, created by our very own students.
This week, students are encouraged to participate in this annual fundraiser. Each Red Day, December 9th, 11th, and 13th, a money collection jug will be placed in each first hour class. Fueled by some friendly competition, all Red Day first hours will be competing for a decadent breakfast, curated by our very own Food Service and sponsored by Tarr & Associates. This breakfast reward can be found in the RHS commons the following week on December 17th during the winning class’ first hour block.
If you would rather bring in a new, unwrapped toy, you are more than welcome to drop it off in the main office, and the RHS commons. Not only are the Academies at Romeo getting in on the action, but our 9th Grade Academy is as well. Over the next two weeks, their three teams, Discovery, Quest, and Expedition, are competing against one another to bring in as many toys as possible.
Located in The Dawg House, Romeo’s school store, and in the 9th Grade Academy, the 2019 Toys for Tots T-Shirts will be sold for $15. Tarr & Associates generously funded these shirts in order for every penny of the money spent by the community of Romeo to directly go to Toys for Tots. The sale of the t-shirts will begin next week Monday, December 9th, and continuing throughout the week. This shirt will grant you free admission into the following weeks’ varsity basketball games, and help to purchase even more toys for the children in need.
All of the money raised by students during next week will be collected and totaled on Friday, and the toys purchased with these funds will be displayed in RHS’s commons area for the student body to see all of their hard work pay off.
Not only are our bulldogs participating during school, but there are also additional events taking place throughout the following week to keep the spirit rolling along. On Tuesday, December 17th, during the girls varsity basketball game, and Thursday, December 19th, the boys varsity basketball game, any fan that brings in a new, unwrapped toy can enjoy free admission into the game. Don’t want to bring in a toy? You can also receive free admission by sporting the brand new Toys for Tots t-shirt. Not only can you give back by attending these games and through the Mad Minute money donation during the game, but you can also get back by participating in the 50/50 raffle. Because of our friends at Elder Ford, all of the fans granted free admission will not be a loss to our hard-working Athletic Department. Elder Ford will be reimbursing each free ticket during these two basketball games.
Get excited Bulldogs, and bring your Christmas spirit. The next two weeks will be filled with fun, service, and spirit. Gather your loose change, spirited competition, and bring the big hearts Romeo is known for.
