Chase Arendts ‘17- Looking to continue their dominance in the playoffs, varsity football plays Cass Tech High School in the MHSAA Division One state championship game. The Bulldogs take on the Technicians at Ford Field this Saturday at one p.m.

Romeo, playing as the the home team, has a record of 12-1 looking to get one last win. Cass Tech, having played 16 games this season, comes into the state finals with an overall record of 14-2. The Bulldogs in league play finished the season as MAC White champs with an undefeated league record, 5-0. Entering the finals at .500 in league play, Cass Tech maintained a record of 2-2.

“I think we have one of the best offenses in the state,” receiver John Houbeck ‘16 said. “Cass Tech will be a test for us.”

Both teams play with high powered offenses. Putting up 484 total points in 13 games this season, the Bulldogs averaged an impressive 37.2 points a game. Cass Tech matches up well on offense with Romeo putting up 581 points this season in 16 total games, averaging 36.3 points per game.

“We have our biggest defensive challenge of the year,” free safety Kade Messner ‘17 said. “They have so many athletes that could hurt us in different ways.”

Locking it down on defense, varsity football gave up only 129 points to opposing offenses this season. They dawgs have only gave up an average of 9.9 points per game this season. Cass Tech’s defense does not edge the Bulldogs giving up 11.1 points per game. Both defenses play well, but the Bulldogs have the edge over the Technicians on defense.

Coming off high scoring semi-finals games, the Bulldogs controlled Grand Ledge, winning 48-21 coming away with the game in the second half. The Technicians scrapped out a win against Canton, stopping a last minute comeback, winning 48-41.

Players to watch in this game are number nine Cass Tech receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones and number 21 Romeo receiver and cornerback Brad Tanner. Both are very talented athletes and will be facing off all game.
