Rachel Peil ‘22: With spring sports right around the corner, Romeo athletes started preparing for their season. The coronavirus pandemic cancelled spring sports last year, leaving many athletes wondering about the future of high school sports.
Fortunately for athletes, coronavirus restrictions got somewhat lifted in the past couple of months. Spring sports begin in late March for several different teams, including girls soccer, boys golf, lacrosse, softball, baseball, track, and girls tennis.
Lacrosse kicks of their season on Friday, March 26, with baseball, softball, girls soccer, and girls tennis all set to begin on Monday, March 29. Boys golf begins Wednesday, March 31 and track on Wednesday, April 14.
As of now, many teams started preparing by practicing indoors, doing some preseason prep, or even doing conditioning in the weight room.
Junior Seth Vonhiltmayer, played for the varsity lacrosse team since his freshman year, and he expresses his opinion on the upcoming season.
“This is definitely different from previous years because we’ve never had this much time to prepare for a season,” Vonhiltmayer said.
The team practiced around the clock for this season, in hopes of winning it all.
“We started preparing for this season the second last season was taken from us. We are having workouts, training with a great lacrosse coach, playing with club teams, and watching films,” Vonhiltmayer said.
Good luck to all of the teams this season!
