Ava Vendittelli ‘22: Amongst the whirlwind of uncertainty and chaos, one thing feels secure for junior Sophia Zalucki. On October 29th, Zalucki announced she verbally committed to Saginaw Valley State University. In fall of 2022, she will attend SVSU to continue her athletic and academic career.
In love with the game of soccer since a young age, Zalucki constantly tries to better herself. The years of practice paid off when she made the girls varsity soccer team freshman year. After years of playing soccer for a number of different travel, club, and school teams, she will be able to experience a whole new world of soccer at the college level. Ready for the immense commitment and competitiveness that college soccer requires, Zalucki will be playing outside on the Saginaw Valley girls soccer team.
SVSU quickly became Zalucki’s first and final offer. When visiting the school, she immediately fell in love with the campus. After this visit, Zalucki knew she did not have to look any further – the campus and coaches made her feel welcome and she knew it was for her.
“The campus was the perfect size for me, it felt like home,” Zalucki said.
In addition to the incredible campus and team, SVSU also provides a wide variety of majors and programs, allowing Zalucki time and options to explore her ideal career path. Although unsure of what she would like to major in, she states she looks at medical or pharmaceutical sales as a possibility.
“I decided on SVSU because it had all the things I wanted in a school. It really made sense to me and I couldn’t see myself going anywhere else,” Zalucki said.
From running around on the field, to making the varsity soccer team freshman year, to committing to SVSU, Zalucki stays dedicated to the game she loves. RNews congratulates Sophia Zalucki in her transition from a Bulldog to a Cardinal!
