Ryan Medley ‘17 – Can you imagine competing for a sport not only locally, not even statewide, but nationally? Well most of us aren’t talented enough to do so but Mya Fregoli ‘18 is. Fregoli is looking forward to a big season at Romeo, competing for the Bulldogs soccer team. Being a Michigan State University commit as only a sophomore, a bright future lies ahead of her.
“It felt really good to commit, I was ready to have fun and be stress free,” Fregoli said.
Now that she has committed, she is working hard to get a spot on the National team. Fregoli and her midwest regional team made up of players from seven states went on a trip recently to Puerto Rico, competing in a tournament against professional teams.
Fregoli was playing against women ten years older than her, but that didn’t stop her from performing well. Her team came in second and Fregoli was a captain for two games and received MVP honors for one game. Training year round, and constantly competing, Fregoli’s hard work is clearly paying off.
Mya has played soccer since the age of five and through that time has built friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. She absolutely loves the game,
“Just being able to play and run and having the ball and being able to do anything you want with it and beating people and scoring it’s awesome,” Fregoli said.
All that Mya has accomplished thus far at her age, is a spectacular feat. She has done things most of us will never do including a Skype call with Italy’s national coach. With 3 more seasons for Mya here at Romeo she still has big things to do in this little town, and soon with her drive and dedication it’s possible that she won’t just be representing Romeo, nor just Michigan, and not even the midwest, but the U.S. as a whole as a member of the U.S. National team.
