Jared Czapski ’18: Romeo Varsity Dance Team competed in the Universal Dance Association’s (UDA’s) camp over the summer, and took 3rd place to qualify themselves for Nationals. RVDT travels to Orlando Florida over this coming weekend to fight for the title. Last year the team only made it to Semi-Finals in the competition, but they’re looking to make it to the finals this year.
Majority of the team went down to Orlando on Wednesday, but practices don’t start until Thursday night. The team doesn’t actually compete until Saturday where prelims occur. The UDA splits up the teams into three groups: A, B, and C (large, medium, and small respectively). This year RVDT competes in group B for the first time ever with their rival, the Eisenhower Eagles.
“I know we’ll definitely make semi-finals in both of our dances, its just having the aggression in our jazz dance with our faces to tell our story, and just have high energy in our pom dance and we’ll make finals,” Nicole Jandreski ‘18 said. “Both of our dances are a lot more clean, and definitely a lot better than last year’s and we are a lot more confident with our routines. We all know what to expect, we just need to be hungry for it.”
Romeo is seeking the finals this year, and looking to place in both of their dances. Semi-finals start on Saturday night for jazz, and Sunday morning for pom. The finals begin later in the day on Sunday. We all wish the best of luck to all of the girls competing.
