Austin Taseski ‘21: This past week the Romeo Bulldogs played the Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils, losing 72-62. John Jackman ‘19, Chris Riley ‘19, Jack Kelke ‘22, Trevor Franklin ‘19, Jack Wilson ‘20, and Jase Davidson ‘21, all placed first in their events.
Jackman in the 100m and 200m sprints, Riley in the long jump with a 18.5 ft jump. Kelke won the two mile, and Wilson in the mile run. Davidson got first with the 110m and 300m hurdles and Franklin in shot put.
Riley’s first official long jump ever ended up placing him first against the Blue Devils.
“I was happy and hope to improve my distance soon to win more long jumps,” Riley said.
The girls also lost to the Blue Devils, but by a score of 76-61.
Many girls placed first against the Blue Devils also. Ashley Quinn ‘19 in the 800m, Madelyn Malczewski ‘20 in the mile, Sarah Greb ‘22 in the 2 mile. In relays the Bulldogs won the 4×100, with runners, Gabriella Rimkus ‘19, Isabella Rimkus ‘21, Ella Block ‘20, and Emma Dahms ‘20. They also won the 4×200 with runners, G. Rimkus, I. Rimkus, Block, and Dahms. Another relay team won the 4×800 with Malczewski, Quinn, Natalie Molotky ‘19, and Sydney Goodrich ‘20. The 4×400 team won with runners, I. Rimkus, G. Rimkus, Quinn, and Goodrich.
This year the team gives out a bulldog of the meet award. The first winners, Riley and Malczewski earned the reward for their outstanding performances.
“For it being the first meet I felt that our relay teams did a great job and we can only hope to improve from there,”said G. Rimkus.
Both the girls and boys teams look to rebound off the tough first loss. They continue to keep a positive outlook for the rest of the season.
