Rachel Peil ‘22: The boys varsity baseball team started the week off with a three game series against Grosse Pointe South.
The Bulldogs started the first game of the series away at Grosse Pointe on Monday, April 26th. Linken Hayward ‘21, Buster Debol ‘23 and Isaac Stively ‘21 all pitched for Romeo. Cole Tinson ‘22 hit a home run, but the Bulldogs still lost 12-5.
Looking to tie up the series, the team then made their way back home for game two against Grosse Pointe South on Wednesday, April 28. Josiah Hicks ‘22 looked strong as only gave up three hits and no earned runs. Hayward singled in the fifth to bring in the tying run. In the bottom of the sixth, bases loaded Jozef Modlinski ‘22 singled to break the 1-1 tie. The Bulldogs won the game by a score of 3-1.
The boys headed back to Grosse Pointe for the final game of the series on Friday, April 30th. Andrew Miller ‘21 played a spectacular game on the mound pitching 6.1 innings. Tinson came in for relief to get the final two outs of the game. Romeo scored their runs in the top of the seventh inning, for yet another come from behind victory. The final score of the game finished 3-1.
Even though the dogs came from behind more than once to win, they need to touch up on some small things for their upcoming games.
“We need to start hitting early on and get that momentum going early. Once we start hitting that momentum transfers over to defense,” Jack Opalewski ‘22 said.
Romeo prepares next for a three game series against Chippewa Valley High School.
