Claire Spitz ‘20: This year, Romeo honors a very special charity for our annual Charity Week. Taking care of those that desperately need it, the Care House of Oakland County supports and comforts abused and neglected foster children. Located near the community, the Bulldogs open their hearts and give to this wonderful organization.
The Care House of Oakland County hosts many different programs such as therapy for abused children, along with their non-offending family members. Care House not only takes care of the victim, but those around them. Offering family educators as well, the Care House helps to prevent damaging relationships before they occur, aiding low-income families with the tools and resources they need to build, and maintain, and happy and healthy home.
This non-profit dedicates its efforts to truly being the light in other people’s lives. As found on their website, their mission statement is simple: “… to be a leading resource in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, and the protection of children through advocacy, education, intervention, research, training, and treatment, in collaboration with the community. Our vision is to impact the safety of every child in Oakland County through intervention, prevention and treatment”.
Many take their childhood for granted, however, we must ensure that every child gets a chance to grow up in a stable, loving home. As Charity Week proceeds here at Romeo, lets remember what all of the fundraisers, events, and spirit days are really for.
