Liliana Venditti ‘17 – Romeo’s softball team continued the tradition of charity within the community over the past two weekends. The girls gathered early in the morning last Saturday and set out on a mission to collect canned foods to give to the Goodfellows at St. Clements church, where the volunteers there give the food back to those in the community who need it. 550 food items were donated.
“I really enjoyed doing this because it was hands on and we got to help out people in our community and school,” said Morgan Gardner ‘16.
Thee Office Pub and Cookery in Romeo contributed to the fight against hunger within the community by donating 20% of all bills over this past weekend. The team also charged $10 a ticket for an opportunity to win a 50 inch TV as well as raffles throughout the day.
With bags and boxes filled with nutritious canned foods, it is clear that the girls have accomplished their mission, but they are not about to stop there, this coming Saturday, May 21, the girls will continue their fight to end hunger as they host a “Strike Out Hunger” tournament in order to raise money and awareness for their cause. All proceeds from concessions, retail, games and raffles will be donated to Goodfellows.
