Charles Roth ’14 – Romeo’s boys basketball team defeated the Dragons from Lake Orion 79-57, Friday night. The Big Red Barn filled up fast with a loud and voluminous Romeo student section. The teams non-conference game started a little shaky as a Bulldog three pointer by Ryan Romer(12) put the Dawgs up 1 point after the first quarter.
“The momentum seemed to be on our side,” George Wilson(12) said about Romer’s buzzer beater.
The second quarter was a back and forth battle as Lake Orion kept the pressure on. A handful of flashy plays by Drew Cushingberry(12) help put Romeo up 37-30 at halftime.
“We wanted to take make sure we had the lead in the second giving us a little cushion going into halftime,” Wilson said.
The Bulldogs came out of the locker room rolling. After dusting off the cobwebs of a long holiday break, Zachary Rizo(12) and Cushingberry both made triples that helped put the team up 59-40 at the end of the third quarter.
“We practiced throughout break, we just had to make sure we hustled,” Rizo said.
Romeo held the lead throughout the fourth quarter, and went on to win the game 79-57. The Bulldogs were lead by Adam Davis(12) who scored 14 points, while Cushingberry added another 13.
The Bulldogs improve to 5-0 with the OAA/MAC crossover win. Romeo takes on MAC Red rival Dakota High School next Friday, January 10th, at home in a double header varsity girls, and guys match up.
