Szlaga ‘22: Over the weekend of January 7th the Romeo varsity hockey team played in two intense games. Previously, Romeo beat L’Anse Creuse 1-0 in overtime. Both teams played very hard, however, the Bulldogs pulled through.
On Friday the boys traveled to Mt. Clemens Ice Arena to verse L’Anse Creuse High School. The game was well fought till the 2nd period where L’Anse Creuse started banking some hard shots into the back of the net. They had many great opportunities on net but the shots were blocked. The boys tried their hardest but took a 0-6 loss.
Senior captain Nicholas DeStefanis ‘22 commented on the tough loss.
“For the team being short five guys, we barreled the whole game and kept going every period. I say we played one of our best games system-wise all season regardless of the score,” DeStefanis said.
On Saturday Romeo faced off against Port Huron High School for this season. Romeo hosted the Big Reds at Suburban Ice Arena, and it seemed to be a great day to be a bulldog. Romeo pulled off a 9-1 win, bouncing back after Friday’s tough loss.
Mason Giza ’23, a returning varsity hockey player shared his thoughts on the great win.
“In the first period we did not play well as a team and we all wanted to do it ourselves. Then in the second period, we stepped up and played as a team. We worked together instead of individually to get the win and it worked,” Giza said.
The weekend had some ups and downs but the boys are expecting to get back into a winning streak. Next weekend, the Romeo High School varsity hockey team will be able to prove it.
