Jack Stager ‘22: The Romeo 2021-2022 Hockey team looks to get over the hump this year after heading to the district final last year. The Bulldogs fell short to Port Huron Northern but the returning players look forward to getting the Bulldogs to the next level.
The Bulldogs open their season on November 26th against Grosse Pointe North at Suburban Ice. While this is the home opener and season opener, this game means so much more to the Bulldogs. Last spring, head coach Keith Knight passed away. There are too many accolades of Coach Knight’s to count, however, the most predominant one winning the state championship back in 2015.
Defenseman and senior, Kaleb Bart ‘22 gave his thoughts on the memorial for coach Knight and how he and his guys can play on Friday; and the overall expectation for the season.
“For the memorial weekend we’re really just hoping for a clean and competitive weekend like Knight would’ve wanted. I see good things for the team this year. We gained a lot of good young players that helped with the depth on our second and third lines. We should have a really good year and hopefully, make a good playoff run.”
The Bulldogs dedicated this whole weekend to coach Knight, Friday they face off against Grosse Pointe North, followed by a matchup with Lakeview on Saturday. A big doubleheader for the Bulldogs to start the season, but an even bigger meaning for the team and community of Romeo.
The Bulldogs look to go far this season and deep in the playoffs as seven seniors look to lead this Romeo team to dominance on the ice. Romeo adopted a new mentality this season, play hard, play to win, and play for coach Knight. Look out for these hungry Bulldogs all season long.
