Justin McNulty ‘20: Team 93 finished off their season Friday, October 26 after suffering a 21-17 defeat in round one of the 2018 MHSAA football playoffs.
Second seeded Macomb Dakota, hosted the third seeded Bulldogs in a rematch of the MAC Red rivalry game.
Dakota got off to a hot start, scoring on their first possession and getting ahead 7-0.
Romeo answered back with a field goal from kicker, Milan Krstevski ‘21 making the score 7-3.
Struggling offensively, the Bulldogs defense kept them in the game, as Logan Iafrate ‘20 and Justin McNulty ‘20 both added interceptions, shutting down two key Cougars drives.
However heading into the locker room at halftime, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 14-3 after a Dakota score late in the first half.
Romeo pieced together a nice drive in the second half which ended with Brock Horne ‘19 powering his way into the endzone from two yards out.
Dakota’s special teams stepped up and blocked the extra point making the score 14-9.
Tyler Czapski ‘19 quickly flipped the momentum back to the Bulldogs with his electrifying 97 yard touchdown run to give Romeo their first lead of the game.
Quarterback Jack Wendt ‘19 connected with Ryan Heimbuch ‘19 for the two point conversion making the score 17-14 in favor of Romeo at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter turned out to be a physical slugfest where every yard became earned.
The Cougars controlled the ball most of the quarter and ended up driving down the field for the game winning touchdown.
After a late two minute drive effort from the Bulldogs fell short, the clock hit zero on the 2018 Romeo Football season, as they dropped their final game 21-17 and were eliminated from the playoffs.
Team 93 finished the season with an overall record of 6-4 and continued the Bulldogs playoff streak dating back to 2004.
