Paul Hurley ’16 – Romeo’s three year losing streak to their biggest rival, Eisenhower, is over. The Bulldogs topped the Eagles 24-8, in exciting fashion.
Wasting no time, Romeo came out strong, driving 78 yards in 9 minutes. They completed three 3rd down conversions on the drive, eventually resulting in a 5 yard touchdown pass from Paul Hurley to Mitch Heimbuch, giving them a 7-0 lead.
“It was clearly the way we wanted to start the game, it proved we were prepared,” Mitch Heimbuch, tight end, 16’ said. “I think we had something to prove after being disrespected most of the week.”
The defense stood its ground throughout the entire game. The Bulldogs gave up very few first downs, and controlled time of possession.
Offensively, Romeo kept moving the ball. Quarterback Paul Hurley, scored 2 rushing touchdowns, from 4 yards out and 19 yards out. With a field goal on the following drive, the Bulldogs took a 24-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was controlled by the defense, creating two turnovers in the second half and only allowing 8 points. Brad Tanner 16’ closed the game out for good, with an interception in the end zone with 1 minute left in the game.
“I was looking for the chance to make a play the whole game, and I finally got the chance,” Tanner, cornerback, 16’ said. “It feels great beating Ike.”
