Elliott Byrd ‘22: The Romeo Varsity Basketball team season came to a pause after their game against Bloomfield Hills. After a member of the basketball team tested positive for COVID-19 the whole team got placed into a mandatory two week quarantine.
Because of this two week quarantine the teams games against Dakota, Grosse Pointe South, and L’Anse Creuse North got cancelled.
Romeo athletic director Cody Smith provided some clarification on what the rest of the basketball season looks like for the Bulldogs and the rest of the state.
“The team will have one game made up before the MHSAA Districts begin on March 23rd. The Macomb Area Conference decided to cancel the Boys Basketball MAC Tournament this year because there were 15 Varsity Boys teams that were quarantined over the last two weeks so the league needed these dates to finish up some regular season contests,” Smith said.
The team’s quarantine ends on Wednesday, March 17 and until then there is nothing the boys can accomplish except stay safe and healthy. After the quarantine ends, they start preparing right away for the district tournament, and their one makeup game before then.
