Cambell Geibel ‘21: In recent years, dogs become an increasingly popular means of help in situations such as comforting those who suffer from trauma, issues with substance abuse, and assisting law enforcement. Organizations often use dogs as a method in making the lives of others easier. Based in Romeo, the organization ‘Prevention Concepts and Solutions’ uses dogs to battle issues at home in Macomb County.
“Our mission is to improve qualities of life for Veterans, First Responders, and others (e.g., community) by providing Canine-Assisted Therapy and Activities combined with Mental Fitness Training and, as a result, have the ability to donate specially trained Police K-9s to law enforcement, and Psychiatric Service, Emotional Support and Therapy Dogs to Veterans,” the organization’s website states.
The PCS organization developed a program that consists of training the canine, therapy activities, and donating the animal to either a law enforcement agency or an individual in need.
Their new approach to facing problems like mental illness and substance abuse proves effective within Macomb County. Even honored with a commendation from the State of Michigan, the PCS organization clearly makes a difference in this community.
