Jordan Lampton ‘16 – Nick Sienkewicz ‘17, awarded to perform his musical theatre solo in the showcase of the Michigan State International Thespian Festival this weekend, by Romeo Theatre Company director Ms. Kendra Walls.
I will be singing “Corner of the Sky” from the musical Pippin.
“Being in the showcase is an amazing honor,” Sienkewicz said. “It grants me the chance to perform in front of a plethora of people with like-minded personalities and a love for the dramatic arts.”
This opportunity is considered an honor for the chosen student. Each theatre company, no matter how large or small, is allowed to select one competing act – be it a dance, monologue, or song to place in the showcase to show off their talent and to represent their company.
“This opportunity inspires me to give 100% while onstage, in order to show the other theatre companies what Romeo is made of,” Sienkewicz said.
Sienkewicz has been a member of Romeo Theatre Company for the past two years. His first major role in the company was playing Franklin Hart Jr., the “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical” boss in last year’s production of 9 to 5: The Musical as a freshman. This year in FAME he portrayed Bruno Martelli, the aspiring music student who feels a little ahead of his time with his taste in music. With both of these parts being essential to the show, it’s been proven that Sienkewicz consistently performs to the best of his ability, and rightfully deserves to represent Romeo Theatre Company in the showcase.
“I don’t want it to be all about me,” Sienkewicz said. “I want to represent Romeo. Of course it’s amazing to show off my talent to similar people. I’m just glad everyone I’m close to will be there to witness it.”
