Madison VonHiltmayer ‘18 : Practicing and understanding the importance of serving others plays a significant role in core values at Romeo High School. This holiday season, members of Student Council are organizing a book drive from November 28th-December 8th. The more books collected, the better! New or gently used books will be collected before school in the lobby. The counseling office plans to accept donations as well. All the books should be kid friendly, since they will be wrapped and sent to the less fortunate children at the MCREST homeless shelter.
MCREST provides men, women, and children with an overall safe environment: a place to stay, meals, restroom facilities, shower facilities, transportation, and laundry services. Helping individuals for 26 years now, MCREST has made a difference in over 15,000 people’s lives.
Spread the word, ask your family, friends, and neighbors if they have any books lying around that they don’t use anymore. One book equals one Christmas present and smile for a child at the homeless shelter.
The class (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior class) that brings in the most amount of books, win $500 towards their prom! Also, there will be a $500 check presented to the MCREST foundation in the winning class’ name.
Spread some holiday cheer and donate a book!
