Jack Stager ‘22: The 2022 Romeo Ping Pong “March Madness” kicked off this past Monday. Participating Romeo High School students and staff split up into two regions, the “red” region and “bulldog” region. Senior Matthew Jackman ‘22, a part of the “red” region, gave his thoughts on competing in the second ping pong tournament of the 2021-2022 school year.
“I think it will be a fun time, it’s going to be very competitive, especially with teachers in the tournament this time around. I’m excited for my first round matchup and hopefully I can make it far in the tournament this time,” Jackman said.
As Jackman introduced, the second tournament of the school year takes place right now. The first took place in December as senior and starting quarterback for the Bulldogs Logan Rolfs ‘22 won the first tournament. Logan competes in this ping pong March Madness in the “Bulldog” region. Psychology and World History teacher Mr. Marin hosted both of these ping pong tournaments. Many students love the ping pong tables in the cafeteria, as during every lunch the festivities focus primarily on ping pong. Senior and first-time competitor Gabe Peraino ‘22 expressed his excitement to play in the tournament along with the praise towards Mr Marin.
“I’m really excited to see the turn out of the tournament, I think it’s a great idea by Mr. Marin, for putting on this competition. I think there is going to be a lot of excitement as the brackets deepen,” Peraino said.
Overall, the Romeo “March Madness” ping pong tournament will be one to look forward to and watch as matches progress throughout the week. Many students watch the matches at lunch, after school and before school.
