Rachel Peil ‘22: It’s no secret that Romeo High School Senior, Madelyn Malczewski’s ’20 passion is running. All of her experience running and competing helped shape her into the runner she is today.
It’s no surprise that Malczewski took on her passion for running, considering her mom is also an avid runner. She started running casually throughout her childhood, but started running consistently her eighth grade year.
A pretty impressive feat, Malczewski’s team qualified for States three out of her four years (freshman, junior and senior). Not to mention, she went to States individually with one other teammate her sophomore year and placed 19th.
The season started off not so hot for Malczewski. Not being able to start running until October due to an injury frustrated her, but the setback made her more determined to get back on the running path.
“I worked really hard in the pool swimming or when biking. While I was injured, I just pictured myself signing to a college which helped keep me very motivated,” Malczewski said.
Malczewski finished in 24th place for All-State with a time of 18:32.
“It feels pretty great to be All-State. It was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had,” Malczewski said.
Malczewski began running cross country five years ago and started track almost six years ago. She plans to take her passion for running all the way to college.
“I have a few schools I’m looking at, however I have not made a choice yet. All of them I would run cross country and track,” Malczewski said.
Malczewski loves the memories and relationships she made throughout the last five years, but she looks to a future of making more memories and continuing her running career in college.
