Cambell Geibel ‘21: As summer fades to fall and the Romeo community adjusts to the new school year, the district looks forward to new events. Among these events, Romeo football attracts the largest crowd. The excitement of football season this year invigorates Romeo more than ever before. Many people credit this excitement to the new construction and renovations made to the Barnabo football stadium. The Bulldogs host four home games during the 2018-2019 season.

As soon as spectators approach the entrance, the new changes are apparent. When purchasing a ticket, buying concessions, or using the restrooms, fans get a close-up look at the brand new concession stand and locker room. The new facility and a gray brick complex gives off a much sleeker look than the old white building that used to stand in its place.

As fans make their way to their seats they get a glimpse of possibly the most exciting addition to Barnabo, the electronic scoreboard. While its purpose remains the same as the old scoreboard, this new modern twist is more entertaining and visually pleasing than the old one. The scoreboard sits on the southeast side of the stadium, tilting towards the Romeo bleachers. Viewers see the remaining time, occasional fun animations, and videos of the players on the board. This new feature quickly became a crowd favorite.

“I love the scoreboard and how it really engages the crowd more,” Diana Rolfs, Romeo High School parent said. “My favorite part is when the players come on and say a short message, it makes you feel so involved in the game even from all the way up in the stands. The field definitely has a new exciting atmosphere to it.”

Other teams besides the football team benefit from playing at the new and improved Barnabo. The soccer teams, track team, and the lacrosse team also enjoy the new stadium during their season.

Alongside the excitement of the game, these various updated features leave the athletes and fans impressed. Hopefully Barnabo’s fresh start helps to propel Romeo athletics into a successful and positive future.
