Paul Hurley ’16: Reigning victorious against Anchor Bay, the varsity basketball team won 53-48 at LCN High School on Wednesday night. WIth this win the Bulldogs advanced to the District Finals and play Friday night against Dakota.
Managing to dominate the paint all night, the team failed to make a single three point shot. However, this happened by design and not flaw.
Knowing they needed to control tempo and get the ball inside, coach Marvin Cushingberry made sure the game plan to attack the paint got across to the players.
“Coach preached it all day at practice,” Noah Soave ‘16 said. “Get the ball inside, go up strong, draw a foul. We are a pretty strong team and we need to use our physicality.”
Paul Hurley ‘16 led the team with 15 points, most of which came from the free throw line. He controlled the offense and finished with zero turnovers.
“After my awful game Monday night, I was just determined to play to my best capability,” Hurley said. “I knew I had to take better care of the ball and manage our tempo.”
Heating up at the right time, Romeo now owns a win streak of four games coming into the District Championship game Friday night. Playing Dakota for the third time this season, a different result is on the mind of the players.
“I don’t want Friday to be my last game and I will play like that,” Mitch Heimbuch ‘16 said. “Especially not to Dakota, I will be determined.”.
The game takes place at L’Anse Creuse North High School on Friday night at 7 pm!
