Kayla Kieleszewski ‘18: Each year for homecoming, a king and queen is crowned from the senior class. This year, the candidates for this position were: Evan Smith, Brandon Hicks, Cole Harko, Matthew Hutnick, and John Messing, along with the girls, Alexa Gabler, Jessica Roland, Allie Weber, Sydney Byrd, and Sabrina Staller.
On Friday night, Matthew Hutnick and Sydney Byrd were crowned king and queen.
The king holds several other titles, such as: president of his class and ads editor for the yearbook. He is an active member in his society and always shows his Romeo pride.
Hutnick was not too confident in winning since he knew he was up against other great guys. However, he was ecstatic to find out he had won.
“I was super happy, considering I saw myself as the underdog,” Hutnick ‘18 said.
After his win, Hutnick claimed it made his senior homecoming experience that much greater.
The queen, Sydney Byrd, participates in the school’s band. Byrd also is a part of the National Honors Society and excels in school. Byrd is extremely excited to be representing her community and having the honor to be crowned queen.
“I was surprised, but it was such a cool experience,” Byrd ‘18 said.
Byrd enjoyed her night and admitted she would never forget it.
Next year, Byrd and Hutnick will get the chance to crown the king and queen for the class of 2019.
