Steven Morris ‘16: Winning their second regional championship in two years, the varsity hockey team beat Port Huron Northern 7-1 at Suburban Macomb on Saturday night.
Exploding to a huge lead, the boys lead PHH 5-0 at the end of the first period. The Bulldogs never looked back and finished the game winning 7-1.
Scoring one goal each, Brett Lanski ‘17, Jake Petri ‘17, and Logan Jenuwine ‘16. Blake Gabler ‘16 and Nick Blankenburg ‘16 lead the team, scoring two goals a piece. Nolan Kare ’17 A.K.A “Glover Daddy” stopped 14 shots and got his 24th win on the season.
“We haven’t won anything yet,” captain Blankenburg said. “Our goal wasn’t a regional championship, but it’s a stepping stone to something greater, a state championship. It was a good win but we have more. It’s not about being perfect in the game because we will never be perfect, but being perfect is about being able to look each other in the eye and knowing that we didn’t let each other down.”
Playing in the state quarterfinal this Tuesday March 8th at 6:45, the Bulldogs look to get past what they could not last year. The team standing in their way is MAC rival, Anchor Bay.
Losing last year proves to be more motivation for the team as they attempt to illustrate that they are a team of destiny.
Reaching for glory, the tensions will be high, arena will be packed, and everything will be on the line Tuesday night, It’s do-or-die for the Bulldogs as they look to advance to the state semifinals.
