Nick Blankenburg ‘16 – Ending the regular season with a mercy, the varsity hockey team beat Livonia Franklin 9-1. The Bulldogs are ranked 5th in Division 2 according to Michigan HS Hockey Hub and ranked 12th in the State according to State Champs Sports Network.
Goals being scored by juniors Blake Gabler, Nick Blankenburg, and Luke Kaczor helped the Bulldogs. Leading the team, Logan Jenuwine had 3 goals. More goals were scored by seniors Mitch Bidus and Jake Kaczor.
Between the pipes was sophomore goalie Nolan Kare who saved 19 out of 20 shots with a save percentage of 95% for that game.
“We played our systems real well and it showed,” Head Coach Nick Badder said. “I don’t think Franklin came out with their best game, but we never gave them have any space out there. If we continue to play our systems and work hard we won’t have a problem against anyone. This Thursday’s game will be a good experience for our players as well as a recruiting tool for kids in the school that are still playing travel hockey. I think it will be a great thing for travel parents to see.”
The next game for the Bulldogs is Thursday the 5th in their first playoff game at Suburban Ice Macomb. Before that game they are scrimmaging the U16 AA Oakland Grizzlies at 8:30 at the Onyx on Thursday the 26th, a game designed to help the Bulldogs prepare for playoffs the following week.
