The Romeo girls basketball team had one goal going into the District Playoffs at Stevenson high school. Romeo’s first game was against the rivals from Eisenhower, whom Romeo had already beat in the regular season.
The Bulldogs who struggled to score in the first quarter, soon caught fire in the second half finishing off the Eagles 49-27.
The Bulldogs were led by Senior leader and Point Guard Lindsey Hernden, who finished with 20 points and was 5-6 from beyond the arc.
“It was a group effort” Hernden(12) said “We played amazing together as a team. Everyone contributed on Offense and Defense.”
The four seniors Jodie Bosheers, Rachel Boeve, Chelsea Malburg, and Hernden altogether finished with a combined 39 points for the team.
Romeo’s pre district win against Eisenhower moved them to the District Championship against Utica Ford II, who they played on Friday.
Romeo barely snuck by Henry Ford II 33-31 to become the District Champions. The Bulldogs once again were led by Senior Lindsey Hernden who broke 1000 points on her high school career making her only the second Romeo player to do that.
Hernden(12) finished with 21 points and 4 rebounds, while Kylie Resner(11), Jodie Bosheers(12), and Chelsea Malburg(12) all made the stat sheet scoring a combined 12 points and adding 17 boards.
