Giulianelli ‘22: The Romeo Varsity Girls Basketball team kicked off their season Tuesday, November 29, 2021.

The Girls started practicing and preparing for their upcoming season almost right after the end of last season. Senior Sarah Ross says “We have practice every day Monday through Friday and have workouts every Sunday morning.”

The girls also went to a basketball camp at Grand Valley this past summer which helped them out a lot as a team and was overall a great experience for them.

Considering their hard work and dedication, the girls felt excited and prepared to play their first game against Dakota.

During the game, the Bulldogs pushed hard, but in the end, the Cougars ended up taking the win 65-49.

“I think our game went well for our first game. We need to work on running the plays and playing with composure” Carmody ‘22 said.

Although the team didn’t win their first game they are looking forward to a fun season and many more games to come.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the new girls on our team better and forming great friendships,” senior captain Reese Carmody said.

The girls play a longer season than most, they play up until March. The team looks forward to practicing and putting in the hard work throughout the year.

That being said, this Bulldogs team contains many talented girls and will benefit from great leadership throughout their season.

“Our team this year is very fast. We can break presses and get fast breaks and steals all game long. I think this will help benefit us if we can just slow down on our offense” Banach ‘22 says.

Next week the Bulldogs take on their second game on Thursday, December 9, 2021. The girls will be playing against Port Huron Northern. Come and support the girls as they take on their next game!
