Brendan Banach ‘16 – Romeo Varsity Volleyball has rolled all year, largely in part of MAC Red MVP Gia Milana ‘16. Romeo dominated all season, winning the MAC Red on a 10-0 sweep, finishing the season 39-8-1.

Milana was very humble when asked about receiving the MAC Red MVP award.

“It feels good to have a team around me to support me and help me do what i need to do in and out of practice,” Milana said. “They push me to work hard even when I don’t have the motivation to practice, which really helps me excel on the court.”

Milana only played one year before beginning her Romeo Varsity Volleyball career. She began playing volleyball for Powell Middle School’s 8th grade volleyball team. Following one year at the middle school, Milana made the Romeo High School Varsity Volleyball team as a freshmen.

She has accomplished a lot in her short volleyball career. Milana not only earned a varsity spot as a freshman, she’s also been All State two times in three years.

“I feel very honored to be recognized as one of the top players in the states and I will continue to work hard to prove that I should be recognized as one of the best in the state,” Milana said.

Her greatest volleyball accomplishment is verbally committing to D-1 Maryland University on a full-ride sports offer. Milana had many college options to choose from, including University of Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Romeo continues to roll through the playoffs, most recently topping Clarkston. Milana played a huge factor in beating them in four games. She is hoping to continue her high level play until she can hold the State Championship.
