Brendan Bonach ‘16 & John Houbeck ‘16- Advancing to the state championship game, the football team defeated Grand Ledge, 41-21 this past Saturday.
Scoring first, Ba Blamo ‘16 gave Grand Ledge a 7-0 lead, early in the first quarter.
Playing in a snow storm, Dominic Bongiorno ‘16 tied the game 7-7, with a six yard touchdown run. Scoring next for the Bulldogs, Brad Tanner ‘16 made a one-handed grab from 15 yards out. Concluding the first half scoring, Mitch Heimbuch ‘16 gave the boys a 19-14 lead, on a 60 yard pass from Paul Hurley ‘16.
Taking total control of the game, the Bulldogs dominated the second half.
Scoring 22 points throughout the third and fourth quarter, Lucas Schimon ‘16, Tanner, and Nathan Goralski ‘18 found their way into the endzone.
The Bulldog defense allowed zero points in the second half. Grand Ledge scored their only points on a blocked punt, which resulted in seven points for the Comets.
Winning this game punched the Bulldogs ticket to Ford Field; this is the first time a Romeo football team reached the state championship game.
