Austin Taseski ‘21: This past weekend the MHSAA’s Selection Sunday took place to decide the teams competing in the 2019 playoffs. The Bulldogs were selected to play in Region Three, District One of the Division One bracket. Joining Romeo, their opponent Davison along with Lapeer and Grand Blanc.

Coming into the playoffs the Bulldogs ended the regular season with a 7-2 record. Their only losses suffered at the hands of Utica Eisenhower and Chippewa Valley, both by less than two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs first square off against the Davison Cardinals. The Cardinals play in the Saginaw Valley league (Blue), and ended their regular season with a similar, 7-2 record. Their losses to De La Salle by a score of 22-0, an Lapeer by a score of 24-21, bring them to the same record as Romeo.

The Bulldogs earned 87.773 playoff points, while the Cardinals earned 87.443 playoff points, giving Romeo the home field advantage. 

Both teams competing found themselves as high as top 10 throughout the season, according to the DZone

Across the Division One bracket many powerhouse programs look to make a run. West Bloomfield High School, Belleville High School, and Chippewa Valley High school find themselves as the overwhelming favorites to reach Ford Field.

The Bulldogs outstanding defense, only letting up 100 points this season, look to be challenged by a Cardinals offense who’s put up 407 points in the past nine weeks.

Outstanding play from defensive backs, Brandt Messner ‘20, Ty Messner ‘21, Nick Miclea ‘20, and Justin McNulty ‘20 allowed for a limited passing game for the opposing offenses this season. 

The Bulldogs offense excelled this season with tailbacks, Brian St. Clair ‘21, Ryan Czapski ‘20, and Austin Radtke ‘21 who will be coming back from an ankle injury.

The game will be played this Friday at 7:00 with an admission fee of $6.
