Austin Taseski ‘21: The Bulldogs faced the Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils on Friday, October 25th for their senior night and homecoming game. The Blue Devils came into the game with a 7-1 record, giving the Bulldogs a tough matchup before heading into the MHSAA playoffs.
To start out the game the Bulldogs played outstanding defense to stop the Blue Devils from scoring. This then gave them the ball. Bret Miller ‘20 connected with Bryce Tinson ‘20 on a long pass, setting up a touchdown run for Kasey Harrison ‘22.
The Blue Devils bounced right back, scoring off of a long touchdown pass making the score 7-7.
GPS came out strong in the second quarter and scored another touchdown pass from inside the redzone. This gave them a 14-7 lead.
Soon after, Nino Brasza ‘21 caught a long pass from Miller, taking it all the way down inside the ten. To finish off the drive, Brian St. Clair ‘21 pushed his way into the endzone to tie the game 14-14.
On the next drive, the Bulldogs defense was able to create an interception, caught by Brandt Messner ‘20. Fabrizio Raciti ‘21 then scored a rushing touchdown to increase the lead 21-14.
The Blue Devils came back on the next drive but could not come up with any points. This resulted in a punt and a drive by the Bulldogs to get into field goal range. After two Blue Devil timeouts Gjon Djurasevic ‘21 hit a 47 yard field goal to make the score 24-14 as time expired in the first half.
In the third quarter St. Clair was able to score his second rushing touchdown of the night making the gap larger on the scoreboard. At the end of the third, the Bulldogs were up 31-14.
In the final quarter St. Clair bowled into the endzone for the third time, giving the Bulldogs an astounding 38-14 lead.
Soon after the Blue Devils came back and scored, against the second team, but failed a two point conversion. The final score of the game was 38-20.
The Bulldogs finish off the regular season with a 7-2 record. Their next game will be against the 7-2 Davison Cardinals on Friday, November 1st.
“We are going to have to be diverse, watch film and be prepared for the unexpected. As a junior, it is important to work hard to give the seniors a good look in practice and make sure this isn’t their last game playing for Romeo,” Eddie Finos ‘21 says.
According to the DZone, the Bulldogs are ranked 11th in the state, and on MaxPreps, they are ranked 9th.
