Olivia Sunderlik ‘21: Over the past year, choosing colleges through the pandemic provided seniors with a very detailed and quite difficult process. Lack of visits and other normalities became a great challenge for students. This process provided an even greater struggle for athletes. Recruiting and choosing during this uncertainty yielded its struggles; however, Emeline Rodger ‘21 refused this conflict stand in her way. On March 11th, Rodgers officially signed to continue her athletic and academic career at Lourdes University.

Emmy Rodger, a talented soccer player, holds a great passion for her sport. Her hard work and extreme dedication to her sports held amazing benefits, helping her make Romeo’s varsity soccer team as a freshman. Rodger demonstrated great potential to take her talents to another level. Because of this, she continued to pursue this dream.

“When I heard Lourdes University was attending a showcase I was playing in, I emailed them about coming to my game,” Rodger said.

Due to Rodger’s outstanding performance, the university took great interest in her, recruiting her to play on their soccer team. After a visit to the university, Rodger enjoyed her time. The college remains located nearly two hours away from Romeo, yet Rodger truly felt welcome in Sylvania, Ohio. After considering factors such as cost, scholarship, academics, and distance from home, Rodger officially decided on Lourdes.

“I really liked the coach and the feel of the town reminds me of home,” Rodgers said.

At Lourdes, Rodger plans to commit herself to her team and her academics. In her four years, she hopes to obtain a dual degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. As a motivated and gifted student athlete, this challenging path appears very achievable. Through her diligent work, Rodger sets herself up for a successful and fulfilling future.

As Rodger reflects on the process, she provides some advice for athletes going through the recruitment and selection process.

“I would definitely go on a visit as soon as you can. Also, if it’s possible, train with the team and spend the night with the team,” Rodger said.

After all, Rodgers’ visit supplied the main factor in his decision to attend Lourdes University. While the process appears complex, getting to know your possible team and the school helps greatly.

While Rodger feels nervous about leaving family and friends, she appears ecstatic to start playing soccer and move into her new dorm. With her constant dedication and observable passion for the sport, she deservedly met her goals. Rodger progresses towards a promising future, leaving the community very proud. As she transitions from a Romeo Bulldog to a Lourdes Gray Wolf, Romeo wishes Emmy the best of luck!
