Chase Arendts ‘17: After a long fought battle, Romeo’s track team lost to Macomb Dakota High School in a close meet, losing 74-63.

Matching up well against the Cougars, the Bulldogs faired well in the distance events and earned some points in both the sprinter events and field events.

Taking first in the 400 meter race, Jared Ozella ‘16 ran a 53.55 second race and Bailey Kamego ‘18 placed second with a time of 54.81 seconds. Romeo also took third in the 100 meter and 200 meter races.

“The race felt great,” Ozella said. “It was awesome to get back out on the track against good competition and come off on top. This 400 was definitely my best race so far this season.”

Adam Fraeyman ‘16 finished the meet on top, taking first in all of his events. Running a time of 2:03.02 in the 800 meter race, Fraeyman beat Dakota’s runner by 0.24 of a second. Winning the 1600 meter race, Fraeyman beat Romeo’s own, Nick Behring ‘16.

Behring won the two mile race with a time of 10:14.53 and Paul Arnold ‘16 took third running a 10:23.91.

Kyle Finos ran just as well as last meet placing third in the 110 meter hurdles and placed first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.57 seconds.

Winning half the relay races, the Bulldogs took home the win in the 4×400 relay with time of 3:40.71, and the 4×800 relay with a time of 8:30.37.

Romeo scored points in every field events. Louis Thom ‘17 placed second in shot put, 45 feet ten inches, and third in discus, 128 feet seven inches. Cole Harko scored points in high jump and placed second in long jump, jumping 20 feet three inches. Brad Tanner ‘17 won long jump, jumping 22 feet one inch. The Bulldogs scored one point in pole vault, scoring third.

“My goal for the meet was to take first in the shot and place in discus,” Thom said. “I came in second for shot put and third in discus, which was disheartening at the time, but they were the farthest throws I’ve had this season. Overall, I’d say there’s plenty of room for improvement.”

Romeo’s next meet is the Oxford Invitational, on Saturday at Oxford High School.
