Justin McNulty ‘20: This Friday, October 13, the Bulldogs take on what some call their second biggest rivalry, the Dakota Cougars. Both teams come into this matchup with a record of 5-2, needing to gain one more win to secure a spot in the playoffs. Coming off an impressive 34-14 win vs Warren Mott in their homecoming game, the team hopes for another win. Meanwhile, the Cougars look to bounce back from a devastating 37-7 defeat suffered at the hands of Chippewa Valley.
For Romeo, winning one of the next two games guarantees them a position in the playoffs. However, winning and finishing off the regular season with a 7-2 record should guarantee them another home game during playoffs.
“The buildup and hype for the game is exciting since we expect the crowd to really come out for the last home game,” defensive back Luke Nikolla ‘18 said.
This matchup produced exciting games in recent years. One of these games being the Bulldogs huge win vs Dakota while on their state championship run two years ago. However, last year didn’t go as planned as the Cougars easily defeated Romeo 45-7 in a key game during the fast pace season.
“I think last year’s result pushes us to be better and make smarter decision on and off the field to avoid a similar outcome,” Nikolla ‘18 said.
Hoping for a positive outcome this Friday, the Bulldogs look to do two things: defeat the “rival” and secure a spot in the playoffs.
