Sarah Fuzi ‘17 – Many students enjoy volunteering in their free time, cleaning up parks or planning projects to help the community. Key Club offers students the opportunity to volunteer and be a part of something great.
“Key Club is a student lead and student run international service organization,” Kelly Phalen ‘16 said. “I wanted to join Key Club to meet awesome people and to help those in need in my community and around the world.”
Key Club is a small group of students who enjoy giving back to others. Many students joined a similar club in middle school. Due to the inspiration they were given, they wanted to continue giving back to their community.
“I was in the Builders club in Middle school and I wanted to continue to keep giving back,” Joey Russo ‘17 said.
They use their own time to make a difference in the lives of others. These students participate in many different fundraisers and events to help local charity organizations. Many of these events include collecting food and clothing for families who are less fortunate.
“I personally enjoy all the work we do to help children, like our Croswell Christmas Breakfast, and our Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF event,” said Kelly Phalen ‘16 said. “We do a lot of work with kids, we take special needs kids to Westview Orchard in the fall. We help in the school wide food drive, we sell candy grams at Christmas and roses for Valentine’s day, and we conduct fundraisers to provide vaccinations for sick children.”
Some of the food drives they do is for the local Samaritan House, where all classrooms collect canned foods and other goods. From toothbrushes to turkey, Key Club boxes it all up and delivers it to the Samaritan House. The students then carefully stack the canned foods inside, this food is given back to our community to people in need.
Key Club has done large projects for the community, including several worldwide. They fundraise, package, and encourage everyone to lend a helping hand. Everyone has the ability to change the world they live in for the better. If you are interested in being a part of Key Club, the group meets every Thursday in room 404 at 2:30pm.
