Kade Messner ’17: Cheering in the District competition at Lake Orion High School this past weekend, the cheer team placed seventh. The girls competed against Lake Orion, Anchor Bay, Carman Ainsworth, Clarkston, Davison, Grand Blanc, Grand Ledge, Lake Orion, Lapeer, Midland, Oxford, Port Huron, Saginaw Heritage, and Swartz Creek.

Having home court advantage, Lake Orion took first place.

Despite taking seventh, they cheered the best they have all season.

In round one they totaled a score of 212.7 points and in round two they scored 199.32 points, which gave them a “Sub” score of 412.02.

After round two the girls sat in eighth place and wanted to move up with their third round score.

“Being in eighth place after the first two rounds, I knew we would not win,” Emma Johnston ‘16 said. “So I knew our season would be coming to an end, so I just wanted to finish my senior year off strong in my last performance.”

Tallying a total of 273.9 points was just enough to push the girl’s past Carman Ainsworth into seventh place.

“I was really proud of my team,” Johnston said. “All year we tried our hardest and that is all I can ask for as a senior.”

Unfortunately seventh place was not good enough to advance the team to Regionals and their season ends.
