Adam Sebastian ’19 & Justin McNulty ‘20: On Thursday, March 22, Cameron Bourgeois ‘18 signed his official Letter of Intent to pursue both his academic and athletic goals at (NAIA) Wayne State University. Bourgeois decided to extend his cross country career with the Warriors rather than the Orangemen of Syracuse University. Bourgeois’ hard work and determination allowed him to achieve his long-standing dream of becoming a collegiate athlete.
“I felt that I fit in well with the team and I felt the team is going in the right direction with their recruiting classes,” Bourgeois ‘18 said. “[All the hard work paid off] because at first I wasn’t expecting to run in college; but now I am.”
Bourgeois first began running cross country in middle school, and belonged to Romeo’s cross country team throughout high school. He also plans to become a member of Wayne State’s track club, as the school lacks a Boys Varsity team, where he plans to compete in track and field events, as well. Bourgeois expects the competition level to rise, but feels his new and former coaches’ training programs provide him with the endurance to rise to the occasion as well.
“[I am excited] about a different team atmosphere than high school, where training is a little more difficult but it’s definitely exciting,” Bourgeois said.
On the academic side, Cameron plans to pursue a degree in Chemistry while continuing his athletic career. Excited for a new environment and different type of learning, Bourgeois looks forward to life as a college student athlete.
Congratulations to Cameron on signing and best of luck to him in the future.
