Nick Blankenburg ’16: Starting off the 2015-2016 hockey season with a win, the Romeo varsity hockey team defeated the Stoney Creek Cougars, 3-1, this past Saturday at Suburban Ice Macomb.

Scoring first for the Bulldogs, Danny Geffert ‘17 gave the boys a 1-0 lead. Blake Gabler ‘16 assisted Geffert, who rung a shot off the post, which then Geffert proceeded to put the puck in the back of the net.

“Getting the lead first is always an advantage,” Nick Blankenburg ‘16 said. “It sets the tone for the game and gives us confidence.”

Along with assisting Geffert, Gabler scored a goal as well, making a nice move and shooting the puck past the Stoney Creek goaltender, to put the team up 2-0 in the first period.

Coming off an All-State season, Captain Logan Jenuwine ‘16 scored in the second period to extend the Dog’s lead.

Goalie Nolan Kare ‘17 stepped up for Romeo. The Cougars shot a parade of pucks at Kare all game, keeping all but one out of the net.

The Bulldogs next game is Friday December 4th, against the Sault Sainte Marie Blue Devils at Suburban Ice Macomb at 8:30.
