On September 28th, the Romeo Bulldogs and the Stevenson Titans played in the Gridiron Classic at Ford Field. After the Titans came out with a 10-0 lead the Bulldogs persevered tieing the game 10-10 at the half with a touchdown from Blake Williams(12) and a field goal by Andrew Behring(11). Romeo dominated the second half outscoring the Titans 17-7, Mitch Pacitti(12) and Lucas Schimon(10) each contributed a touchdown, with Behring added yet another key field goal to put the bulldogs up two scores late in the fourth quarter.
With the bulldogs starting quarterback Zachary Rizo(12) out with a concussion, Paul Hurley(10) took the start at quarterback.
“I was very impressed with Hurley and the rest of the sophomores, they played like seniors on Saturday,” said George Wilson(12).
Hurley threw two touchdown passes in his first career varsity start to Williams and Pacitti. Schimon and Brad Tanner(10) contributed in a very vital way in the closing minutes of the game. Aside from Schimon’s touchdown,Tanner had a key interception to seal the game.
“The sophomores played a phenomenal game, and our offensive and defensive lines both stepped up,” Charles Roth (12) said.
In addition, Roth had an interception giving him a team leading six for the season. linebacker Mitch Hess(12) and Williams both had huge games on defense for the bulldogs, with Williams being named the MVP of the Gridiron Classic.
This event was the Bulldogs first time involved in the Gridiron Classic.
The Bulldogs next game is the Watchdog game against Port Huron on Friday, October 4th.
