Austin Taseski ‘21: The Bulldogs took on the Eisenhower Eagles on Friday, September 20th, unfortunately suffering their first loss of the season.
This brings the Bulldogs to 3-1 overall on the year.
With a slow off start for Romeo, the Eagles forced a fumble on the first drive of the game, allowing them to take great field position to kick a field goal, putting the Bulldogs down 3-0 just minutes into the game.
The Dawgs hoped to answer with points of their own, yet turned the ball over yet again to give the Eagles a great scoring opportunity. The Eagles then scored off of a pass, making the lead 10-0 in the first quarter.
The second quarter was vacant of any offensive opportunities, as the Bulldogs and Eagles went back and forth on defense, causing a scoreless 2nd quarter.
The Bulldogs went into the half looking for some motivation to muster a comeback.
Again and again the Bulldogs offense was forced to punt the ball, giving more opportunities to the Eagles.
Finally, Eisenhower capitalized, scoring off of a trick play pass into the endzone making the score 17-0.
WIth the little time left in the game the, Romeo needed something special to recover. During the fourth, the Bulldogs only scored once with only seconds remaining to make the score 17-7. The touchdown was thrown by Ty Messner ‘21 threw the touchdown pass to Nino Brasza ‘21.
“We need to have a great week of practice and focus on the next game, even though we lost this week. Got to move on and be prepared for Anchor Bay,” One of many senior captains, Michael Severini ‘20 said.
With their first loss of the season, the boys hope to move on and improve. Next week’s game against the Anchor Bay Tars will be at Barnabo at 7pm.
