Nick Blankenburg ‘16 & Paul Hurley ‘16: Raising money to defeat cancer and winning a hard fought soccer game, what could be better? The girls soccer team did that after beating Lakeshore, 2-0 in a MAC Blue game at Memorial Field in their Annual Cancer Game.
Battling in a back and forth game, the girls achieved win in the second half thanks to Mya Fregoli ‘18 and Alyssa Curtis ‘16.
Scoring a goal apiece, Fregoli and Curtis’s goals both came from far shots in the box, one hitting the goalies hands and trickling in over the crossbar, and the other going cross bar down and barely crossing the line. It really was a game of inches.
“Scoring that goal in that special of a game was important to me,” Curtis said. “The energy and ball movement was there all game and once I kicked the ball I knew it was going in.”
Playing their next two games away, the girls hope to keep their quest to MAC Blue Division Champions alive as they look to beat L’Anse Creuse.
Last time the girls faced off against L’Anse Creuse they lost 6-2.
Overall the girls are 7-3-1 and 6-1-1 in the MAC Blue. In the MAC Blue the girls have 19 points while L’Anse Creuse is in second with 17 points.
