Justin McNulty ‘20: The Romeo Bulldogs improved their overall record to 2-0 this past Friday, September 6, with an impressive win against Port Huron Northern.
Coming off a season opening 41-14 win against Oxford, Romeo picked up right where they left off, dominating every aspect of the game.
Ryan Czapski ‘20 got things rolling early, picking up his first touchdown of the day on the Bulldog’s first drive.
Later in the first half, Brian St.Clair added a big run up the middle for another 6.
With three minutes remaining before halftime, Czapski took a jet sweep 67 yards adding his second score of the day.
Gjon Djurasevic ‘21 booted a field goal through the uprights, allowing Romeo too take a 23-0 lead heading into the locker room.
The second half remained all Romeo, as Nino Braza ‘21 found himself snagging two touchdown catches to close out the game.
Defensively, Romeo looked sound all night allowing only a mere 6 points, winning 37-6.
Francesco Ruffino ‘20 added a key interception on the night to shut down PHN’s comeback hopes.
“This was a big win for us since many predicted it to be a close, hard fought battle, so to dominate in the way we did should provide tons of momentum moving forward,” Logan Iafrate ‘20 said.
Romeo now ranks as the 10th best team in the state, according to the DZone.com, and looks to keep the winning streak alive as they travel to Stevenson High School this Friday, September 13.
