Robert Gjelaj ‘19: The boys varsity soccer team played the Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils on Monday, September 17. The Bulldogs won 1-0 with a late winner in the final minute of the game. Scoring the goal, Nick Maue ‘19 helped secure the victory and improve the team to 5-2-2 on the season.
The defense helped Robert Gjelaj ‘19 put up a clean sheet, allowing him to make all seven saves in seven opportunities.
“It feels good, especially knowing that this was an important game and it got us a first place in the conference. We’re on track to win Mac White, and we hope to continue playing well,” Sean Hathaway ‘19 said.
The Bulldogs played the Lakeview Huskies on Wednesday, September 19. The Bulldogs managed to get the 1-0 win through this tough game. Mateo Giulianelli ‘20 the lone goal scorer helped the Bulldogs get 3 points to stay on top of MAC White. Hathaway saved three Huskies shots.
“It was a good team win, we fought hard the whole game. The score was only 1-0, with the goal early in the first half and our defence really stepped up lately with back to back shutouts,” Maue said.
The Bulldogs hosted the Anchor Bay Tars on Friday, September 21, ending their winning streak with a 1-0 loss. In a hard fought game, the Bulldogs failed to keep up with the Tars. The loss puts the Bulldogs in second place in the MAC White Conference.
“The game was not as good it should of been. We should of won but we just did not finish our chances. We need to step up next game to be back up on top of the Mac. All in all we got to work harder if we want to go far in districts,” Reese Ford ‘20 said.
