Gabe Peraino’22: The boys and girls cross country team walked into the MAC Red Championship with a lot of confidence. Performing great through the first half of the season, both teams plan on capping it off with a dominating run at one of their most important meets of the year. Of course, they came out on top.
On Tuesday, October 5th, the Bulldogs competed against numerous schools in both the men’s and women’s categories. All the Romeo runners shined, taking first place for both teams.
Leading for the guys included Jack Kelke ‘22 who came in first place out of all the guys with a 15:47, Owen Sharnas ‘22 who came in second out of all the guys with a 15:55, Jack Wallace ‘22 who placed fourth with a 16:34, and Connor Clor ‘24 who came in at fifth place with a 16:42. The official team score for the guys came in with a 43.
“We’re all really proud that both the guys and girls teams won, but we are going into really tough meets in the future,“ Jack Wallace ‘22 said.
For the girls, Violet Hrabovsky ‘25 lead the way for Romeo by finishing in fourth place as a freshman with a 19:17, Madison Clor ‘23 came in sixth with a 19:35, Amanda Felstw ‘22 placed seventh with a even 20:00, and Brianna Wiegand finished in eight with a 20:27. The team completed the run with a score of 50.
Jack Kelke got rewarded with the “MAC Red MVP” title for his outstanding run, finishing in first place out of two hundred runners.
“It feels good. I think winning the championship is a good demonstration of the team’s determination and hard work, “ Jack Kelke ‘22 said.
Both teams made a name for themselves by winning in both the men’s and women’s categories. The Bulldogs now plan on racing at the Portage Invitational on Saturday, October 9th. The cross country team once again ran the division.
