Elliott Byrd ‘22: The Romeo Bulldogs faced off against Grosse Pointe North in their second matchup of the season. Earlier on January ninth, Romeo defeated the Norsemen 75-59. This game had a similar outcome. Romeo defeated GPN sweeping the season series.

The win against the Norsemen was very impactful in Romeo’s place in the MAC White Division standings as it made them 3-2 in the division and 4-6 overall. This made the Bulldogs second place in the division and only 2.5 games behind Grosse Pointe South for the lead.

On Friday, January 31st the Bulldogs matched up with the New Haven Rockets. This game was another impactful one, as it was the second MAC White showdown of the week for Romeo. Leading up to the game there was a little tension because of the skirmish between the two teams last year. However, Romeo remained focused and did not let the tension throw off their practice and game-day routine.

Romeo was focused throughout the game but New Havens potent offense and stingy defense was a little too much for the Bulldogs. Romeo kept the game close throughout the whole game but New Haven made the stops they needed as well as the buckets when they mattered the most. The final score of the game was New Haven 63 and Romeo 49. This loss was devastating for Romeo because it brought the Bulldogs to a record of 5-7 and 4th overall in the MAC White.

Next week look for the Bulldogs to bounce back and face off against the MAC White division leaders, Grosse Pointe South on February 4th and also take on Warren Mott on the 6th at RHS Gym.
