McComb ’24: The Fall season means football games, the changing color of the leaves, Halloween, and most excitingly: Apple Orchards. Orchards provide a fun outing for the whole family, through picking apples and eating donuts. Romeo houses many great local Orchards that serve a variety of purposes and truly encapsulate the Fall season.

Ellie Stevens ‘23 gets into the Fall spirit through time with family, “I go to Apple Orchards with my family every year” Stevens said.

Many different locations exist locally that bring out the best in Fall.

Verellen Orchards

Operating even out of season, this business offers year-round enjoyment. In the Fall, Verellen Orchards really shines through their selection of apples. Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp, Mcintosh, Gala. Verellen also houses a variety of jellies, preserves, spreads, donuts and cider. The store opens Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday 7:00 a.m – 6:00 p.m.

Stony Creek Orchard & Cider Mill

Another long time operating Orchard is Stony Creek Orchard & Cider Mill, family owned since 1939. They allow apple, pumpkin, and raspberry picking on the weekends. They also sell fruit, jelly, a variety of condiments, and best of all, apple cider and donuts. Picking fruit together beside friends and family, or just buying delicious treats, provides a fun Fall themed day out. And for the nighttime orchard-goers, Stony Creek Orchard offers the Moonlight Hayrides. For ten dollars a person, the orchard provides a wagon ride at night plus a glass of cider and a donut. The Moonlight Hayrides happen every October Saturday night 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., except for October 30th.

Westview Orchards and Winery

Westview provides a multitude of fun experiences for the whole family. From a large enclosed slide, a straw mountain, a jumping pad, mazes, a playground, even to an indoor ride of sorts called The Black Hole. They also still include the traditional orchard experience of picking apples and eating donuts and cider. Westview Orchards and Winery houses its own Cider Mill, so guests can expect a fresh glass of cider when they visit. Between savoring good food, enjoying all the activities outside, and even taking a wagon ride, visitors experience everything great about the Fall season in one location.

The Fall season brings happy memories of past delights – the seasonal food, cozy clothes, beautiful scenery. But it also provides the opportunity for the forming of new memories. Time alongside family and friends today means warmer reminiscing tomorrow.
